MWRA Ceremony at Deer Island
Congratulations, Jared and Samantha ! Great job !
On May 23, 2003, Deer Island was the setting for a lovely ceremony honoring Jared and Samantha for their work in the MWRA Poster Contest.

Although the weather was a bit dismal, it was easy to see how beautiful the facility is, and what a terrific job the MWRA is doing processing our wastewater.
Once inside the children were greeted by coordinator
and incredible educator Meg Tabacsko.

Meg visited our classroom and introduced us
to the world of wastewater and the MWRA's work.

Jared and Sam were also greeted by a Welcome sign, complete with all the winners' names!

There were goodies to eat and photos to be taken. There was also a bit of unexpected excitement when an electrical short caused a bit of fire and smoke causing everyone to be evacuated! The fire department arrived, all was well, and the ceremony was on.

The ceremony was absolutely lovely.
Jared won First Place and a $200.00 savings bond for his efforts.
Here is Jared's winning poster.

Samantha won Honorable Mention for her beautiful work below.

We're sure you'll agree - they did a TERRIFIC job!
As an added surprise at the ceremony, the children received beautiful citations from Senator Robert Havern of Arlington. Back at school Dr. Flaherty presented Jared and Samantha with citations from State Reps Jay Kaufmann and Jim Marzilli - all very official!!

We are very proud of Jared and Samantha, and of all the boys and girls who entered the contest from our school. A big "CONGRATS" to the children and a big "THANK YOU" to Meg and the MWRA for all they do!
