Suminagashi - literally "spilled ink" - is a process where a decorative pattern is created by floating ink on the surface of water and is transferred to a sheet of paper. Each marbled design is unrepeatable, and extraordinarily beautiful. We learned this art form on a field trip to the Children's Museum in Boston, as part of the Japanese House program. The Museum's amazing Art Director led the children in this incredible experience. For more information, you may phone her at (617) 426-6500 x436 or email her at art@BostonChildrensMuseum.org.
